The Waller and Shoal creeks in Austin experienced a flash-flood on April 22, 1915, due to about ten inches of rain. The flood cleared entire blocks of houses and many individuals drowned. The exact death toll in Austin is unknown due to the absence of bodies, but it is estimated to be between thirty and sixty people. The Austin city water main burst, causing a flooded town to be without water to drink or fight fires.
Dan and Jane Chambers lost all 5 of their children in the flood of 1915. While the couple attended a church event, the flood swept away their house and children. Three of their children Hubert, Venzola, and Clifton were found dead. Despite efforts, two of their children, Leola and Irene, were never found.
