25 Feb. 1851- 8 Aug 1952 Born in Arkansas, her owner was “Master Robertson” moved the family to Austin five years before slaves in Texas was freed. Betty lived on a cotton plantation on San Antonio Post Road, about seven miles south of Austin. After being freed, Betty married Joe Coleman, a preacher and they moved to Decker where they raised six boys and six girls.Coleman, said of her husband Joe was a good man. When he died, she said widowers would come to visit. She would tell them to go away. She said she was married twice, once to Joe Coleman and now to Christ.
